If you look into the UK cycling numbers they are LARGE. Yes we know they could be larger, but in 2020 they did increase quite dramatically.
Sales of bikes increased by 60% in 2020......and in the end you couldn't buy one unless you were prepared to wait 3-4 months.
The retail market is valued at over £2.2bn..... that is a lot of bikes, with e-bikes now taking over £1 in every £5 spent on bikes (that's 20% in old money!)
3.5m new bikes sold in one year.
10m+ new bikes within three years ......where do all of the old bikes go?
Hopefully a small number of the old bikes will be donated to the Recycle Bike Hub.
N +1
"What is the number of bikes one person needs?" The answer used to be
....... N + 1, where N is the number of bikes you have & +1 makes up the number you need!!
At the Recycle Bike Hub, we have up-dated the calculation for those people who want to create some GOOD. The new answer is
.......N +1, where N is the number of bikes you need, and the spare 1 is being donated to a good cause!
N +1 = more impact
(I knew my A-Level maths would come in useful one day).
Richard.
